With Summertime upon us the inevitable festival spam is about to begin. With Glastonbury taking a year off we thought we would run through some of the festivals that interest us to give you an idea of what’s on offer both in the UK and Europe.
Isle of Wight
The first of the UK’s major festivals running from the 21st – 24th June and with over 45 years of experience this is not one to miss. There is a real sense of a festival for everyone, with a wide variety of music and sections for families, off site accommodation and the familiar looking camp sites. The beauty of the location is that is has somewhat of a micro-climate which means the usual British weather is never normally an issue, although you can never be certain. This year sees the usual mix of high profile headliners, in the shape of Kasabian, The Killers and Liam Gallagher, along with your more house and electro dance with Chase and Status. They also bring something for the older generation with Depeche Mode and Van Morrison. It is something not to miss out on!
Based in Croatia this festival was one of the first to really kick start the fashion of the Baltic festival. With crystal clear waters and white sandy beaches it has the perfect back drop for a long weekend enjoying yourself whilst listening to the soul infused sounds with artists and DJ’s bringing you a mix of hip hop, house, reggae and drum & bass. On top of it all there is loads to do whilst there that doesn’t involve the festival, with dolphin watching tours, the Krka National Park and Kornati Islands and National Park giving you the perfect destination to holiday.
A little closer to home this time, Lovebox brings some of the biggest artists in R’n’B, Hip Hop and Grime to London. Running from the 14th – 15th July this is a great way to spend a mid summer weekend, with artists like Skepta, Childish Gambino, N.E.R.D and Bonobo to entertain you. It goes against the normal convention in the fact that you are unable to camp but being in London there are plenty of places to stay.
Another one for those of you who don’t trust the British weather, Benicassim is held in the Costa del Azahar in Spain. At nearly a quarter of century old the festival has become a well loved and well known favourite of the European festival goer. This year sees Travis Scott, The Killer, The Pet Shop Boys and Liam Gallagher headlining with loads more acts too, you should be able to find something to do whilst basking in the Spanish sun.
Finishing off our list is TRNSMT Festival in Glasgow. Running over 2 weekends, firstly 29th June – 1st July then the 6th July – 8th July, giving you twice the chance to enjoy the lineup. Over the first weekend you can see the Sterephonics, Liam Gallagher and The Arctic Monkeys then the weekend after sees Queen & Adam Lambert and The Killers, with a mixture of Grime, Indie Rock and Hip Hop artists performing. Fingers crossed the weather holds firm as this has the makings of a great couple of weekends!
