A couple of weeks back we headed down to London Collections Men to check out what one of our favourite brands Barbour had to offer at their SS17 presentation, which was held at The Royal Institute Of Architects. Barbour-clad boys were stood against a printed backdrop of Lindisfarne Castle which is located on the Northumberland coast – a nod to the brands maritime heritage by the North Sea and a fitting backdrop for this collection that was influenced both by the brands seafaring roots, as well as British seaside holidays that require you to pack both sun cream and an umbrella… or two.

Where we see many designers take inspiration from summers spent in dreamy destinations, this display from Barbour felt much closer to home with looks that were reflective of a true British summer. Come rain or shine, if you were top to toe in SS17 Barbour you would be prepared for whatever the British summer weather may throw at you. The collection featured rain-ready bucket hats, lightweight versions of their iconic outerwear with breathable mesh lining, summer shorts with embroidered maritime detail and collegiate-inspired jumpers, as well as wax holdall bags and backpacks to ensure you can pack for the unpredictable weather in style.

This is a Barbour collection that funnily enough, couldn’t be more Barbour if it tried, and it is this consistency and confidence in its staple styles and pieces that the brand could probably owe its success and iconic status too – why fix something if it isn’t broken? A classic Barbour colour palette of olive green, beige, navy and grey was used throughout and there was certainly no shortage of their staple wax jackets and accessories, or the lighthouse beacon that has become synonymous with the brand. Barbour first started out manufacturing clothing for sailors, fishermen and dockers to protect them from the worst of the North Sea weather and this maritime heritage was referenced in all aspects of this classic Barbour collection.

Take a look at our hand-picked selection of Barbour must-haves below, or head to our Barbour product page to get your fix of the iconic brand until the eagerly anticipated release of their SS17 collection.
