Retro-sportswear is making a massive comeback right now with all the popular sportswear brands that circulated in the late 80’s and 90’s re-featuring in both wardrobe regenerations and fresh takes on previous classics from the rejuvenated sports brands. There is no truer nor more current proof of this than the likeness of current trends with the outfits sported in the new television series of This is England ’90.
The latest series of This is England will follow the gang through to the 90’s where we see sportswear in full flourish, but with nostalgia almost always bringing amusement wouldn’t it be great to watch the gang negotiate through to the 21st Century?
The key youth movements which we can see in This is England include the skinheads, mods and casuals. This mod revival will bring the Perry boys, nothing will shake that signature polo, and Adidas kids forefront alongside timeless pieces which will certainly grow in popularity such as the Harrington jacket.
So with so many sports brands re-surfacing with their take on retro classics lets take a moment to remember those brands that never really left us. We have selected some pieces from sportswear giants Adidas, Fred Perry and Lacoste that fit right in to the trend for retro-style sportswear (think big logo’s, wide stripes and bold, simple colours – red, blue yellow) without having to do anything other than stick to what they do best. We have styled these pieces with some new-season jeans from some of our other favourite brands – Nudie Jeans, Stone Island, CP Company and Paul & Shark, for a smarter approach to the trend.
