Every season, East London’s revolutionary arts and media quarter – The Old Truman Brewery, plays host to Jacket Required, an unmissable addition to the menswear fashion calendar. Premium menswear designers of contemporary casualwear showcase what’s in store from them for the up and coming season (in this case SS17) over two floors of the iconic venue. Last week we made our seasonal visit to the event to catch up with some of our favourite brands – keep reading below to find out what were our highlights and to get a heads up on what you should be adding to your wish list next spring.

Jacket Required SS17 - Edwin Europe

If you are a lover of denim and value your collection of jeans as much as we do, then Edwin will already be high on your must-have radar. If not, then you really should consider making Edwin, the original creators of stone washing and international leaders in the denim world, one of your first points of call when it comes to investing in a new pair of jeans. Our denim desires were certainly fulfilled at their SS17 showcase, with jackets and jeans coming in an impressive variety of styles, fits and washes. When it comes to tee’s and shirts, expect to see a healthy dose of their bandana print in indigo blue, as well as graphic prints that pay homage to their Japanese heritage.

Alpha Industries

Over the first half of this year, bomber jackets have become unignorably popular and the current number one outerwear choice is showing no signs of budging off the top-spot. Alpha Industries are one of the original manufacturers of the bomber jacket for the U.S Air Force and today, still produce bomber jackets that are military spec replicas, so if you’re after a bomber with an authentic look then we highly recommend investing in an Alpha. For SS17, Alpha showcased a range of MA1 bombers in pastel shades that are perfect for the summer months, as well as their classic military greens. Also expect to see replica astronaut flight jackets with NASA branding, with this space-travel theme also working its way on to their range of tee’s.

Clarks Originals

Clarks Originals have close to 200 years shoemaking expertise and manufacture shoes with impeccable lasting quality; you know when you invest in a pair of shoes from Clarks you have got them for life. For SS17, Clarks continue to produce their well-loved styles such as the Desert Boot, Desert London and Wallabee Boot in their classic brown, cola and sand colours in suede and leather, as well as new colourways in pastel shades and olive green. What we’ll be most anticipating from the brand, and welcoming to our online store, is a selection of subtle colours in the Trigenic Flex – a shoe that fuses classic Clark’s style with modern footwear engineering technologies, in an athletic silhouette.

Herschel Supply Company is, as we’re sure you’re aware, the ultimate accessory brand, designing uber-practical yet effortlessly stylish products from backpacks & washbags to caps & cardholders. Herschel’s goal is to create a timeless product with fine regard for detail – something they deliver every time. Their accessories make for the perfect companion for any journey, large or small, as each of their designs feature well-placed, functional details intended to help the everyday traveller with absolutely no compromise on style. For SS17, expect to see lots of military greens and camouflage, as well as travel inspired safari prints and florals, in deep shades such as burgundy, navy and forest green.

Farah Jacket Required SS17

Farah’s history goes way back to the 1920’s, originally creating functional, utilitarian clothing that in more recent years has been re-born as a stylish staple of youth. The brand reached cult status in the 1980’s when Farah was embraced by British youth subcultures such as the Mods and Skins as the uniform of their rebellion. Today, Farah draws upon its British roots and urban heritage and continues to produce classic, menswear staples. What we loved most about Farah’s SS17 collection was the fresh, subtle colour palette of beige and ivory, khaki, soft blues, navy and white, in ultra-wearable, understated pieces such as bomber jackets, parkas, denim & oxford shirts and raglan tee’s. We’ll be eagerly anticipating the arrival of Farah’s latest designs to make up the backbone of our summer ’17 wardrobe.
