Stone Island, a brand that requires no introduction. Celebrating their 30th Anniversary with replica pieces from the Stone Island back catalogue, the creative bodies behind the brand have been busy creating a whole new take on their own technically sound approach. This season welcomes the lightweight outerwear, with a unrivaled commitment to process, quality and dying technique. We’ve highlighted some of this season’s iconic pieces, from glow in the dark fabric innovation through to classic enzyme washes, Stone Island never cease to amaze when they open the design floodgates, and this season’s collection is no exception.

The Marina

This iconic jacket comprises a 3-layer cotton fabric, impregnated with special pigmented resins on the outer face. The fabric itself is laminated inside by a breathable, water & wind resistant membrane, protected by a fine nylon mesh. Thermo taped inner seams for extra protection, the finished piece undergoes a light enzyme wash to soften the density of the material and to allow the inner thermo-taping to create a visual ribbing effect on the outside. Through time, the outer face will achieve a faded effect. Added details include front pockets with stud fastening, vents to the underarms and a concealed hood in collar, with luminescent details. The biggest feature about this jackets is the innovative way in which the fabric allows itself to be glow-in-the dark, a real stand out statement piece with a high-tech spec.

The Membrana

Showcasing Stone Island’s signature expertise in garment dying, the Membrana is a testament to the research that goes in to the development of an iconic SI jacket. Using crafted techniques that enable an uncompromised outer colourfast finish, these guys have blended an outwardly water and wind resistant piece with inner performance, sporting a breathable and lightweight resistant membrane. It’s Stone Island’s meticulous attention to detail and deconstruction of the effects of the elements that enables them to create outerwear that can stand up to any test mother nature decides to throw at them.

The Tela Stella

The origin? In 1982 Stone Island was founded with just one fabric in 6 bicolour versions. Thirty years on, the same processes and techniques are implemented to the fabric, which itself is inspired by a study on the technical and functional features of tarpaulins for military trucks. This cotton cloth is impregnated on both sides with contrasting pigment special resins. The fabric then undergoes a long lasting enzyme wash to achieve a faded aspect. The result? A hardy wind resistant material, with the flavour of marine old weather corroded oil-skin pieces and with a strong military feel. A true Stone Island classic, the Tela Stella stands alone as a beacon of well informed, perfected and technical outerwear.

The Ghost Piece

Inspired by the concept of camouflage, this jacket is produced as a monochrome colourway, with a special version of the Stone Island badge affixed to the left arm to blend in with the garment, making this Stone Island jacket entirely unique. The jacket itself is made from a long fibre organic cotton, which is breathable, windproof and waterproof. A treatment is applied to the outer face to increase the water and stain resistance. A real signature piece from Stone Island, this jacket carries every design principle Stone Island stand for, from branded buttons through to technically sound, performance based fabric.
