Autumn is fast turning to winter, the falling leaves are giving way to icy winds and the cold nights are setting in. This can only mean one thing; it’s outerwear season. We took a few of our favourite options up to the Peak District for a road test…
The down offers the warmth, the Gore Tex takes care of the elements, this jacket is ready for the coldest of winters. A subtle, one-tone finish gives a smart look and the simple flat front pockets carry a functional feel. We paired this jacket with a Napapijri fleece, Norse Projects trousers and some black adidas Originals to complete an endlessly versatile outfit; perfect for getting lost in the forrest.
A classic silhouette updated with a soft shade for your autumn palette. The padded baffles add serious warmth and a small trefoil logo and stripes to the body mean this is unmistakably adi. We’ve added this jacket to a BOSS tracksuit, Paul & Shark t-shirt and Polo Ralph Lauren tennis trainers but you could easily don this piece with jeans and boots for a smarter look.
The field jacket has connotations of military or agricultural settings but this version from Barbour International carries their famous motorcycle spirit with an adventurous red colourway. The classic features of front pockets, fold down collar and standard fit keep it functional and smart enough to dress up with a Fred Perry t-shirt, a pair of Edwin jeans and Barbour boots.
Insulated, water repellent and wind resistant – this is a serious upgrade on the classic styles of old. This timeless shape looks endlessly smart and sophisticated whilst also standing up to the elements. The perfect companion to the hills… or the pub! Oh, and don’t forget your hat, sir.
A favourite in the Woodhouse office, the circuit gilet is made from a high density water repellent nylon which means it will withstand some serious weather. We’ve styled this over a classic fleece but if the weather takes a turn you can easily layer up a coat over this perfectly fitted sleeveless option.
There is something seriously cool about a parka. This version from Fred Perry is no different. A lightweight feel makes it perfect for layering up over your favourite knitwear, sweat or shirting. You could even throw a gilet or light down layer underneath for the colder months. The fishtail silhouette, dark green colourway and gold trimmings combine to make a refined update on a classic piece. Invest now and wear it for decades to come.
The next coat we’re looking at is the MA.Strum L-21 parka. Made from a hardwearing ripstop fabric and filled with a 90/10 duck down insulation, this coat is built for the cold months. Hand-warming chest pockets sit just above the large patch pockets, an iconic MA.Strum shoulder tab gives a military feel and a bold new ‘mist green’ colourway keeps it fresh and modern.
Super light, bold and bright, wind and water resistant and down-filled for warmth and comfort, this jacket does it all. We have come to expect nothing less from Canada’s own Moose Knuckles and the Glenfinnan jacket stays true to form. The bold blue colour gives a standout look and the waist length silhouette keeps it casual and comfortable. This jacket would look just as good with your favourite tracksuit as it would a pair of jeans and a shirt.
When you think Napapijri you automatically think of the Rainforest jacket. An iconic shape and design updated once again with a fresh green. You can’t help but think how at home it looks in the great outdoors but believe us when we say it will stand out just as much in the city streets.
This jacket oozes laid back cool. A perfect mid-layer or lighter option if you’re out for a walk, the lightweight down will keep your torso warm while the sleeves and hood allow ventilation and comfort while on the move. The bold blue is contrasted with the iconic yellow tab and Parajumpers branding to the shoulder.
You know its cold when this bad lad comes out to play. Baffles stuffed with Barbour’s Fibre Down will keep you seriously toasty, the longer length ensures the wind is kept at bay and the detachable faux fur hood will keep sleet, snow and rain out of your face. To top it all off, this coat is finished with a quick dry outer so can shake it off and put it away after your wintery walk.
A lighter option, this half shell jacket from Fred Perry is made from a lightweight pure nylon. The concealed kangaroo pocket and half-zip design, elasticated cuffs and drawstring hood give a unique and versatile look. Layer it up with your favourite hoodie as the weather turns cooler and you have a jacket that will see you through the whole of winter and beyond.
That was just a snap shot of the outerwear options we have on offer this season, explore the full collection onsite now and get out and enjoy the Great British winter!
